Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga, at its core, is a meditative approach to yoga, emphasizing passive stretching and aiming to cultivate a deeper internal awareness. Yin yoga is a slow-paced, meditative yoga style that focuses on holding poses for longer periods of time to work the body's connective tissues. This class will feature a series of passive poses that target the hips, pelvis, inner thighs, and lower spine. These poses are held for 2-5 minutes or longer and include props like yoga blocks, straps, blankets, and bolsters to support the body in poses. One of the intentions of Yin Yoga—at least at the physical level—is to gently stimulate the body's various forms of fascia and connective tissues, encouraging their maintenance, repair, hydration, and vitality. On a different level, participants are guided to cultivate a deep internal awareness. Yin Yoga, at its core, is a meditative approach to yoga, with as much emphasis the mental and emotional aspects as the physical practise. 3 Simple principles for Yin Yoga Come into the pose to an appropriate depth… Give your body a space to open up with the invitation to allow for more depth if it is available. Resolve to be still… Once we have found the edge, we settle into the pose and let go of the movement. Tapping into stillness of the mind and thoughts as well. Rest in the posture for some tim Variations will be suggested for all poses to accommodate different body types. Classes will be 90 minutes in length. As always, we will begin our practise with quiet reflective time, please be mindful of the energy that you bring into our space and respect that other participants do attend class for a more interospective experience.
